Welcome to https://www.samms-plus.com, the website and blog of Samuel Conrad Mason aka Sammsa Grenadian by Birth, a Barbadian National, and a Caribbean Citizen.

SAMMS-Plus is a Home-based facility, located in Barbados and designed to Validate, Promote, and Support Home Food Preparation, Small Scale Home Food manufacturing, and the establishment and operation of Small Scale Home-based Agri-business Enterprises in small countries and communities in the Caribbean and in other parts of the world where there is much fertile land and agriculture is a principal activity.

It uses the acronym, SAMMS, which stands for Small, Appropriate Manufacturing and Marketing  Solutions, and the word Plus is added to indicate the range of services being provided, the range of sources from which information is drawn, and testimonies of associates who share the vision.

SAMMS Plus has a number of objectives. They include the Alleviation of Unemployment and Underemployment, Food Waste Reduction, Building Self-Reliance, Reducing individual, family and national Food Bills, and Contributing to Community and National Development.

The alleviation of Unemployment among the young and especially among school leavers in the Caribbean islands and Communities without any specialized training or skills is the principal objective.

SAMMS Plus embraces the concept of intermediate and/or appropriate technologies advanced by the Late Dr. E. F. Schmacher, in an effort to find a solution to the serious problem of unemployment and the resulting high levels of poverty in Third World countries.

Another source of inspiration is the Late Mrs.Carmeta Fraser, a former food promotion officer at the Barbados Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation (BADMC).  In her work, she was a constant promoter of the view that 'food comes first and that 'Barbadians should eat what they grow and grow what they eat.

A third source of inspiration is Miss Maxine McLean, a former government senator in Barbados Government who pointed to the importance of research and development among members of the private sector at an International Leadership Summit held in 2008 in Barbados. She said that "It is imperative that the private sector which ultimately will be the primary beneficiary of research development activity, that the sector recognizes the need to commit to research and development and to see it as a necessary and critical input to its own success".

The Website includes a range of services that are designed to help people who are unemployed or under-employed and who may wish to improve their situation by becoming small scale agri-entrepreneurs and owning their own businesses.  The services which are being provided at little or no cost include the opportunity for residents of Barbados and visitors to visit and to use the equipment at the SAMMS Plus facility to produce their own choice products.
